Psalm 40

Verses 1-3 (NIV)

I waited patiently for the LORD;
He turned to me and heard my cry.

He lifted Erick out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set Erick's feet on a rock
and gave him a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in Erick's mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear
and put their trust in the Lord (as a result of His work in Erick's
life).

Verses 11-17

Do not withhold your mercy from Erick, O Lord;
may your love and your truth always protect him.
For troubles without number surround him;
his sins have overtaken him and he cannot see.
They are more than the hairs on his head,
and his heart fails within him.

Be pleased, O Lord, to save him;
O Lord come quickly to help him
May all who seek to take his life
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire his ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
May those who say to him "Aha! Aha!" be appalled at their own shame.

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who love your salvation always say,
"The Lord be exalted."

Yet Erick is poor and needy;
may the Lord think of him.
You are his help and his deliverer;
O my God, do not delay.

Isaiah 25:7-9
You, SOVEREIGN LORD, will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; you will swallow up death FOREVER. You will wipe away the tears from our faces, you will remove Erick's disgrace. In that day we will say, "Surely this is our God, we trusted in him, and he saved Erick. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither streets nor the threat of prison, neither angels nor demons, neither addiction nor confusion, neither the present nor the future--and Papa, you know his present is dark and from our frame of reference his future is cloudy--nor any powers, nor height nor depth, neither distance nor the nothingness he feels right now, not even the bad decisions he makes over and over again, nor anything else in ALL creation, will be able to separate Erick from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
